The author was invited to spend a month with a traditional and strict Buddhist master in Taiwan. Initially the intention was to spend the whole month in the master's mountain monastery, but as things transpired the Master decided to take the author with him on a pilgrimage to one of the sacred mountains in China for part of the month.
This fascinating, honest and very real book is bravely based on the diary the author kept during his stay, with additional explanatory notes added. This is not a travelogue, but a record of the author's spiritual and emotional journey, the doubts and questions which arose, and how he overcame them. The additional notes illustrate some of the changes in his outlook which have developed in the years since.
